Making the KC region a healthier place
Being a leader in children’s health means doing our part to make sure the Kansas City region is a healthy place to grow up. Since our founding in 1897, Children’s Mercy has provided state-of-the-art, quality health care for every child regardless of the family’s ability to pay. In the community, Children's Mercy has engaged in meaningful programs and opportunities that improve the lives of children beyond the walls of our hospital. These initiatives help support the hospital’s mission to improve the health and wellbeing of children throughout the Kansas City area and beyond.
We demonstrate our commitment to children and families by investing significant resources and services through our community benefit programs and activities. The Internal Revenue Service defines a community benefit as a program, service or activity that addresses a community need and meets at least one of the following objectives:

Relieves and/or reduces the burden of government or other community efforts.
Community Health Needs Assessment
Children's Mercy conducts a triennial community health needs assessment (CHNA). The assessment results helps focus our efforts on critical children’s health needs.
The State of Children's Health Data Digest
The State of Children's Health Data Digest (digest) complements Children’s Mercy’s 2022 CHNA. Within the digest, you will find key indicators from which you can draw insights on the state of children and adolescent health in the Kansas City region related to socioeconomic and physical context, health behaviors and outcomes, healthcare utilization, and the experience of children at home and in school.
