Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve syndrome: Ayden's Story

This aspiring writer, public speaker and Taekwondo black belt was born with a rare subtype of a heart condition called tetralogy of Fallot. Ayden had 2 open-heart surgeries at Children’s Mercy when he was younger and now comes in just once a year so we can track his progress. “Our differences make us the heroes we are,” says Ayden — and we agree!

Building Trust, Sharing Science: Community Engaged Research Team Connects with KC Families

In August 2024, the Community Engaged Research team launched Science Days — a program providing children and families an opportunity to learn about the notable scientific discoveries happening at Children’s Mercy every day. Through this initiative, Children’s Mercy Research Institute scientists share information on current research studies through age-appropriate, interactive activities for children.
