Teen Advisory Board Bylaws
Membership
Members must:
- Currently be a patient at Children's Mercy.
- Be 13-18 years old. *Members may be older if they are still a patient at Children’s Mercy.
- Attend at least 40% of meetings and activities unless excused.
- Be respectful.
- Have good attendance and effort at school.
- Be recommended by a Children’s Mercy staff member.
- Be able to get to TAB meetings and activities.
Who are the Board members?
- The board must have at least eight members.
- At least one member will become the board’s president.
What about parents?
- Parents are not members of TAB, but parents play an important role by supporting their teen's involvement in TAB.
TAB meetings
When are TAB meetings?
- Once a month for an hour on Monday evenings.
- There may be more meetings for special events.
What happens at a TAB meeting?
- TAB members talk about items on the meeting agenda.
- TAB members and their families will get the meeting agenda, location of meeting and meeting notes each month.
- There are Children’s Mercy staff who lead each meeting.
What do staff think about when recommending a teen to TAB?
- The amount and type of medical experiences the teen has had.
- If the teen has good attendance and good grades at school.
- The teen's ability to maintain interest in a 1-2 hour meeting.
- The teen's willingness to express feelings, ask questions and share ideas.
- The parent's ability to support their teen being in TAB and to provide transportation to and from the meetings.
- All recommendations must go through the TAB application process.
