America's Best-In-State Employers Missouri
Children's Mercy Kansas City has earned Forbes' "America's Best-In-State Employers Missouri" designation determined by a vast sample of over 160,000 employees working for companies employing at least 500 people within the U.S. Around 4.4 million employer evaluations were analyzed. The consideration of data from the past 3 years allowed a robust differentiation between organizations that consistently perform well from those that may only have had a single good year.
KC Parent Family Favorite
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has been recognized on KC Parent’s Family Favorites 2024 list. This designation is based on over 30,000 votes from around the area. Children’s Mercy was recognized as having the best Emergency Room in the Kansas City community.
America's Best Children's Hospitals 2024
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has earned Newsweek’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals 2024” which ranks and awards leading hospitals in seven pediatric subspecialties: Cardiac, Cancer, Neurological, Orthopedic, and Pediatric care. The designation is based on data from a nationwide survey, hospital quality metrics, patient experience surveys and patient reported outcome measures.
Becker's Hospital Award: Hospitals/ Health Systems With Great Heart Programs
Children's Mercy has been recognized by Becker's Hospital Review on the "Hospitals and health systems with great heart programs" list. This list recognizes hospitals, health systems and institutes renowned for their superior heart and vascular care. The list celebrates programs that deliver high-quality outcomes, build skilled teams of expert caregivers, and make key research discoveries in heart care.
Joy in Medicine™
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has earned recognition from the American Medical Association (AMA) as a Joy in Medicine™ recognized organization. The prestigious AMA distinction is granted only to organizations that meet the rigorous criteria of the Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Program and demonstrate a commitment to preserving the wellbeing of team members through proven efforts to combat work-related stress and burnout. This award recognizes Children's Mercy Kansas City for offering a positive work environment through equitable treatment of employees, training and advancement opportunities, support of healthy work-life balance and more.
America's Greatest Workplace for Parents & Families
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has earned Newsweek’s “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families 2023” designation which highlights workplaces that support things like flexible working hours, parental leave, childcare support and eldercare assistance. The designation was based on a large-scale employer study across the U.S. with over 224,000 company reviews.

Children's Mercy Kansas City has earned Newsweek's "America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2023" designation based on a large-scale employer study based on over 350,000 company reviews. This award recognizes CM as a company that values diversity, equity and inclusion and makes it a priority in recruitment and training of our staff.
America's Greatest Workplaces for Women
Children's Mercy Kansas City has earned Newsweek's "America's Greatest Workplaces for Women 2023" designation that recognizes companies that are leading the way for women in the workforce and raising the awareness of inequities, while placing them as a priority in the diversity and equity roadmap.
America's Best-In-State Employers
Children's Mercy Kansas City has earned Forbes' "America's Best-In-State Employers Missouri" designation by ranking among the final list of employers that received the most recommendations. The list was divided into 51 rankings—one for each of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia—and was compiled by surveying 70,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. Children's Mercy ranked second for the best employer in the state of Missouri.
Best Companies to Work For
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has earned Ingram’s “Best Companies to Work For” designation that spotlights companies that have created the best workplaces in the region through a strategic mix of compensation, benefits and organizational culture. This program showcases local workplaces that have won the loyalty of their employees and the respect of the business community.
Healthcare Equality Index
Children’s Mercy has earned “LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader” designation by receiving a top score of 100 on Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).
HEI is the national LGBTQ benchmarking tool that evaluates healthcare facilities' policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of our LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees.
Platinum Level Healthy KC Certified
Children's Mercy earned the 2022 - 2023 Platinum Level Healthy KC Certified, the highest level of certification within the program. The award is based on the five pillars of healthy living: Healthy eating, active living, tobacco cessation, work-life integration and design-built environment.
Magnet Recognition
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has earned nursing’s highest honor, Magnet® Designation, five times. Only 8% of all hospitals receive this designation.
The The Magnet Recognition Program® was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to recognize health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and uphold the tradition within nursing of professional nursing practice.
Level 1 Children's Surgery Center
Children’s Mercy is one of only 53 centers in the nation to be verified as a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center — the highest possible rating — by the American College of Surgeons. This verification means Children's Mercy meets the highest standards for safety and outcomes determined by the American College of Surgeons. Our surgical care is designed to manage routine to highly complex illnesses. We also have experts in every pediatric specialty ready to go at all times to provide comprehensive care for kids.
