Income Protection and Security
The Children's Mercy Kansas City Take CARE plan provides team members with a variety of income protection and security plans to promote financial wellness.
The Take CARE income protection and security plans include:
Accident insurance
- Children's Mercy provides this optional coverage to full- and part-time team members.
- This coverage pays cash benefits for expenses that may not be fully covered by your major medical insurance.
Basic life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage
- Children's Mercy provides basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance at no cost to full-time team members.
- Basic life insurance coverage equals one time your annual pay rate, rounded up to the nearest $1,000.
- Basic AD&D coverage matches your basic life insurance benefit.
Supplemental life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage
- Children's Mercy provides this optional coverage to full-time team members.
Coverage equal to 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 times your annual pay rate is available, up to a maximum of $1.5 million.
- Your request may require evidence of insurability to document proof of good health.
- Supplemental AD&D coverage matches your supplemental life insurance benefit, up to a maximum of $100,000.
Long-term disability coverage
- Children's Mercy provides long-term disability coverage at no cost for full-time team members.
- This benefit pays 60% of your pay rate, up to $15,000 a month, if you are disabled and unable to perform your essential job duties because of accidental bodily injury, sickness, mental illness, substance abuse or pregnancy.
- Coverage is effective following a 90-day waiting period and ends when you are medically able to return to work.
Short-term disability coverage
- Children's Mercy provides this coverage to full- and part-time team members.
- This benefit pays 65% of your pay rate from the time your Extended Illness Time hours are exhausted or after seven days of continuous leave, whichever is later. The benefit continues until the 90th day of your disability or until you are released to work, whichever is earlier.
- The plan may "fill the gap" until long-term disability coverage is effective
Critical illness coverage
- Children's Mercy provides this optional coverage to full- and part-time team members.
- This benefit pays a one-time, tax-free payment upon diagnosis of a covered critical illness or condition, e.g., heart attack, stroke and transplants.
Voluntary whole life
- Children's Mercy provides this optional coverage to full- and part-time team members.
- Voluntary whole life insurance combines the guaranteed premium, coverage and values that have always been so attractive in whole life insurance with the advantages of cash accumulation at current interest rates.
- Even if you don’t want to purchase coverage for yourself, you may purchase family coverage on your spouse, children and grandchildren.
