Making an Appointment with Developmental and Behavioral Health (Text Only)

There are several steps between your initial phone call and first appointment in a Developmental & Behavioral Health clinic at Children’s Mercy. Here is an example of what a typical scheduling process looks like:

  1. Complete a new referral form

  2. Children’s Mercy reviews your screening form to decide the correct services for you child.
    We will contact you:

    • Get more information about your child:
      • medical history
      • school situation
      • and symptoms
    • Request certain documents from:
      • you
      • your child's school
      • or pediatrician
    • Let you know your child is on a waitlist for an appointment with us.

      OR

    • Give recommendations for other services in the community.

  3. Some clinics require you to return more paperwork before you are scheduled for an appointment.

    • For all other clinics, we will schedule you as soon as a spot is available. You can return any other paperwork we have requested before your appointment.

  4. What to expect the day of your appointment.

  5. Children’s Mercy will call you a few days before your appointment. We will preregister you for your visit.
