Microdiscectomy for Disc Herniation

Children's Mercy is an American College of Surgeons Verified Center

Disc herniations are rare in children and adolescents, but they do occur from time to time. They typically cause leg pain commonly referred to as sciatica. Sometimes, these can be treated non-surgically with temporary activity modification, physical therapy, and epidural steroid injections. If the symptoms do not resolve with conservative measures, a procedure called a microdiscectomy can be performed to alleviate the symptoms.
