Comfort Ability Workshop
This supportive and interactive workshop is designed to help children with chronic or recurrent pain and their caregivers learn strategies to better manage pain and improve day-to-day function. The program is for individuals age 10 to 19 (patient must still be in high school to participate).
Kids will:

Connect with peers who also have pain

Learn about pain processing

Learn mind-body strategies for managing pain and pain-related stress

Develop an individual comfort plan for improved pain management
Caregivers will:

Learn parent-based strategies that promote child comfort

Understand how to scaffold a plan to support improved function at home and school

Obtain resources for additional pain management support
Things to consider:

Must be able to speak English

Participants must be able to interact with other teenagers in a group setting. Please call to check eligibility for patients with developmental differences.

Workshops run on Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. They are scheduled every 2-3 months; please check below for upcoming dates.
Cost
$90. Insurance plans are not accepted, but a receipt can be provided for FSA/HSA reimbursement - just ask!
Call the Children's Mercy Pain Clinic at (816) 983-6750 if you have trouble affording this. Financial aid is available for families with Medicaid and in other certain situations of financial need.
