The Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy provides the most up-to-date services to children throughout the region from birth through adolescence. Our pediatric physical therapists and occupational therapists provide evaluation, treatment, consultation, and follow-up care for inpatients and outpatients.
Staff members specialize in treating pediatric patients' unique physiology, social, and emotional needs. Therapists utilize the latest technology and maintain current knowledge by attending and hosting annual training courses.
Our therapists provide specialized pediatric therapy services that are evidence based and supported by research. This approach ensures every child is receiving the latest, best available services to help reach their highest potential and improve quality of life. Our team provides advanced care for children from birth to young adults for a vast range of conditions from burns and muscle deficiencies to amplified pain and sports injuries.
Clinical Services
Children’s Mercy physical and occupational therapists provide a variety of individualized therapeutic interventions for hospitalized children from birth to 21 years of age. Therapists are instrumental in development of a care plan that promotes function and maximizes outcomes.
Children’s Mercy physical and occupational therapists provide comprehensive treatment interventions for children on an outpatient basis with the goals of promoting movement, reducing pain, and improving function with activities of daily living.
Physical and occupational therapists are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team in several rehabilitation clinics at Children's Mercy. Therapists provide evaluation services and work closely with the care team throughout the course of treatment.
The Rehabilitation for Amplified Pain Syndromes (RAPS) program is a multidisciplinary service that treats children with severe pain and disability. RAPS provides an effective solution for patients who have tried outpatient treatment methods but are still unable to function normally.
Sports Physical Therapy is a specialized service we provide which helps Student athletes athletes recover from sports-related injuries. The team at Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine Center understands the needs of athletes and adjusts your treatment plan to fit the sport you play.
