Emergency Preparedness
Children's Mercy has established a plan to guide hospital-wide emergency preparedness and management. Our Emergency Operations Plan ensures all areas of the hospital are prepared to respond to potential emergency situations.
Emergency Preparedness in the Hospital
Staff members at Children's Mercy are regularly trained in emergency response planning. While at the hospital, families may hear color codes being announced over the speaker system. This indicates that clinical staff members are responding to an in-hospital emergency. If an emergency situation has the potential to affect families and visitors, hospital staff will provide detailed information and any related instructions. Please ask hospital staff if you have questions about preparedness in the hospital.
Safety at Home
Children's Mercy also wants to ensure patients and families are safe at home. Our team has assembled a list of trusted resources to help families develop emergency-response plans and learn how to respond to or prevent safety hazards.
