School KIDS 2.0: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the School KIDS 2.0 program about?

The purpose of the School KIDS program is to learn more about respiratory viral infections in school communities.

Where will my child be tested for respiratory viruses?

Your child can be tested at home or by their school nurse when experiencing symptoms. In most cases, children can do the test themselves! See the FAQ section on symptomatic testing for further information.

Your child may be tested as often as weekly by a member of the School KIDS Team at select schools. See the FAQ section on surveillance testing for further information.

Questions about payment card (ccPay)

What is the card I received in my home test kit?

The card you received in your home kit is a prepaid, reloadable VISA gift card to collect payments for any nose swabs collected throughout the study. In order to receive payments, the card must be activated before use. If you still have your card from previous years, payments can be added to it.

My ccPay card requires a 4-digit activation code or the last 4 digits of my social security number. Where can I find the activation code?

Please enter “7777” as your activation code. Contact the School KIDS Team if this code does not work.

How can I check the balance of my ccPay card?

You may check your balance at any time by calling (833) 848-5768. Key in your Card number and three-digit security code found on the back of the Card. You may also check your balance online by visiting http://www.mydashcard.com/.

I have another question about my ccPay card. Who can I contact?

Please refer to the ccPay Frequently Asked Questions document received in your home test kit before contacting the School KIDS Team. If your question cannot be answered from that form, please email SchoolKIDS@cmh.edu for assistance.

What is the payment for?

As of August 2024, participants will receive $5 for completing a pre-test survey, $10 for submitting a nose swab and $5 for completing a post-test survey. Payment amounts may be adjusted throughout the span of the study. Payments will be made for both symptomatic and surveillance samples (see FAQ sections on symptomatic testing and surveillance testing for further information).

Questions about symptomatic testing

(when a participant has symptoms and wants to request a respiratory viral test)

What do I need to do to test myself/my child from home?

If a School KIDS participant is experiencing respiratory symptoms, please refer to the welcome letter and instructions provided in your home test kit for guidance on test collected. Symptomatic testing is limited to one sample per month. NOTE: For a test to be submitted, a Test Request Form must be submitted online. Please refer to your welcome letter to access the QR code or direct URL www.childrensmercy.org/testorder for the Test Request Form and instructions for sample drop-off/pick-up.

A QR code taking you to the Test Collection Request form for the School KIDS study.

I’ve collected a symptomatic sample at home and am waiting to drop it off. Do I need to do anything?

Please ensure the sample is refrigerated until it is transported by one of three methods listed in your at-home testing kit. Please try to have the sample transported to us within 24 hours of collection.

Will I receive test results for all nose swabs collected?

Test results are only provided for symptomatic tests. Surveillance tests results will not be reported back to you.

How long does it take for test results to come back?

Symptomatic test results received Monday through Friday during normal business hours are sent out within 24 to 48 hours after we receive the test. Friday afternoon and weekend results will be delayed until Monday morning.

I dropped off my symptomatic sample but did not receive results or my stipend. What do I do?

When you submit a symptomatic sample, please ensure that you submit a test request form as well. This helps the team determine what symptoms you are experiencing, how you would like to receive results, and when the sample was collected.

You can submit the test collection request form at the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/M57TBf88K5

If you still have questions, please contact us at schoolkids@cmh.edu

The courier did not arrive to pick up a test. What do I do?

Couriers are available to pick up 7 days/week. If you have any trouble scheduling a courier, please notify us at SchoolKIDS@cmh.edu. You can drop off your test with the school nurse during normal school hours or at the Children’s Mercy Northland Urgent Care, 501 NW Barry Rd, Kansas City, MO 64155 (Monday to Saturday 10am to 8pm, Sunday 12pm to 6pm).

Questions about surveillance testing

(testing that occurs at school)

What do I need to do to when my child is tested at school when they are not sick?

By enrolling your child in the program, they are already signed up for possible testing at school. You will receive a notification before they are scheduled to be tested and you will receive a survey about any recent respiratory symptoms. Please complete the survey.

How often will my child be tested at school when they are not sick?

Nose swabs may be collected as often as weekly for surveillance testing at select schools.

Other general questions

I want more information about where/how my/my child’s data is being used.

You or your child’s information is kept in a secure database at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. Some information is shared with North Kansas City Schools and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but this information is shared in a way that cannot be used to identify you or your child. Please reach out to SchoolKIDS@cmh.edu if you have further questions.

Why are there surveys about symptoms and missing school/work?

We want to learn more about the symptoms that are caused by different viruses and how viruses impact work and school.

How do I contact the School KIDS Team for assistance?

Please email SchoolKIDS@cmh.edu for assistance Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm. If the matter is urgent and your email has not been addressed by a member of the study team within 30 minutes, call (816) 831-5707 to speak with a member of the study team.
