Student Observerships
Observerships are open however a change in the in local COVID-19 rates could result in the cancellation of Observerships. Observerships remain limited in length to 1 day or a combined 8 hours.
Medical Student Observerships
It is possible to arrange a half-day to a full-day observership under the supervision of a faculty member at Children's Mercy.
Medical student observers must be enrolled at a U.S. Allopathic or Osteopathic medical school.
To arrange for an observership:

Students are to find a faculty physician who agrees to supervise the student and allow the student to work with them. Students can search for physicians by searching on the Find a Provider page.

Once the student has found a physician whom they can observe, student must complete and sign the Agreement for Student Observation and Immunization Form, and the Information About Children's Mercy Attestation.
- Required immunizations include:
- 2 Varivax vaccinations or positive varicella titer.
- 2 MMR vaccinations or positive titers for rubella, rubeola and mumps.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis vaccine (T-dap).
- Provide an IGRA blood test (T-spot or QFT) or TB skin test (TST) performed within the past 12 months.
- Proof of current flu vaccine (during flu season).
- Proof of Covid vaccine.

Faculty must initiate the request and are responsible for the observership experience.
