Research
Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship
The Pediatric Dermatology Fellow is required to complete one research project during their fellowship year. This includes formulating a study design, obtaining IRB approval, analyzing the data, and drafting a manuscript that is suitable for submission for publication. Faculty within the division will oversee the entire process and will serve as mentors for the fellow. Research projects are usually clinically based and can include retrospective case series or prospective clinical research. The fellow is supported to present their research findings at national meetings. They are also encouraged to present interesting cases at national meetings.
The Division of Dermatology is actively involved in several clinical research endeavors. We strive to collaborate with other subspecialists within our institution as well as nationally and internationally to enhance high quality clinical investigations.
Highlights and Areas of Interest
Several of our division members are founding members of the Hemangioma Investigator Group, which is comprised of Pediatric Dermatologists from 15 academic sites, including 12 located in the United States, two in Canada and one in Spain. This group has successfully collaborated on numerous clinical studies resulting in multiple publications. The work is focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the etiology, demographics, and clinical features and associations of infantile hemangiomas.
Our division has also performed research focusing on the clinical presentation of drug hypersensitivity syndrome in children.
Several case reports are published yearly by our faculty members in various dermatology and pediatric journals. The fellow is also encouraged to submit case reports for publication.
