Global Health
Global Health education is offered at Children’s Mercy for all interested residents and fellows. The Global Health Track provides residents with an introduction to children’s global health care issues. Fellows can participate at various levels depending on prior experiences and career goals. Residents will apply to the track in the fall of their intern year and will complete the longitudinal local global health rotation curriculum in their 2nd year. The 3rd year culminates with either an international rotation or a global health project. Residents and fellows will learn about global health, develop effective programs around the world, and learn about how you can incorporate global health into your lifelong career whether that be general pediatrics, a subspecialty, or even living overseas.
Our Mission
Our mission is to expose residents and fellows to global child health issues and begin to equip them with the knowledge and skills to address these issues both locally and internationally throughout their careers.

It was relatively new for residents yet on the cusp of becoming a critical thing people were asking about and looking for...There were only 7 programs in the country at the time, and most of them relatively new as well. One of the unique things we had to offer was that I was able to work with the residency program but also all of our fellowship programs – all of the GME programs – and adapt Global Health to all of the programs and an offer it to everyone.
