Pediatric Pharmacy Residency
2024 Recruitment
Both residency programs will be recruiting for incoming residents at the Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA) Virtual Showcase and at ASHP Midyear.
Children's Mercy Kansas City, a 390-bed regional pediatric referral center, is the primary pediatric teaching facility affiliated with the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Located in the heart of the city on Hospital Hill, Children’s Mercy provides pediatric care in more than 40 subspecialty areas. With 144,000 emergency and urgent care visits, 335,000 outpatient visits per year, the institution operates one of the largest pediatric outpatient centers in the country.
The Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy Department provides 24-hour service, including both distributive and clinical patient care services. On the main campus, decentralized pharmacists practice in areas throughout the hospital that include the pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, general pediatrics, emergency medicine, operating room (OR), hematology/oncology, infectious disease and multiple ambulatory care clinics.
Additional pharmacy services include home care, retail services, specialty, drug safety service, investigational drug service, and outpatient infusion.
Residency Information
The goal of the pharmacy residency is to provide a learning environment that encourages residents to develop into outstanding clinical practitioners. Children’s Mercy has a large group of highly qualified and dedicated preceptors eager to help residents develop their clinical pediatric skills.

PGY1 Program
Our ASHP-accredited PGY1 program was established in 1997. Program graduates have accepted positions in a variety of areas and several are current preceptors for the program.
PGY2 Program
Our ASHP-accredited PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency program was established in 2018. Our PGY2 program is designed to develop the skills necessary to be a highly effective pediatric pharmacist while allowing residents flexibility to tailor the residency to fit their specific interests and professional goals.
